How Internet fax works

How fax over email works

Traditionally faxing was done by sending a fax to another fax number. It usually required two fax machines one on each end.

The main disadvantages of traditional faxing

  • both fax machines had to be turned on
  • only one fax machine could be sending or receiving at a time
  • for documents that were more than a page and depending on the speed of the receiving fax machine, it could take a long time to send over the documents, creating long distance costs

With the introduction of the Internet, fax technology has evolved to take advantage of the possibilities offered by this new technology. The Internet fax technology allows any fax machine to a fax gateway while thinking it is a fax machine.

The recipient of the fax is notified when the fax is received as a new email on any device PC, Blackberry etc
